May is New Zealand Music Month

This week we explored cut paper artworks using the theme "May is New Zealand Music Month".

Follow the link to learn more about this promotion for New Zealand music.

There are many famous artists who have created wonderful artworks from cut paper. One of these was a French artist called Henri Matisse.

Our cut paper artworks had to have a 3-dimensional aspect to them.  To achieve this we created curvatures through our cut out hands, making them look as though they were playing their instruments. Some artists even tried to show key chords.

Agapanthus Artworks

This term we created artworks based in our local environment. Around the western fence line of our school we have numerous agapanthus plants.  During the start of term one these plants are in full bloom. The agapanthus flowers were our inspiration and motivation for our artworks.

The process we went through for creating our artworks included observation, sketching in pencil, painting in acrylics and highlighting with vivid. We ended up with a wide variety of paintings and some of these are included in this post, along with photographs from stages of the process.
