Sea Week Beach Clean Up

Ruma Waru, Karoro School,  competed our Sea Week unit with a beach clean up. We walked along the Wilderness Trail from Watson's Creek to Mill Creek and picked up any rubbish we found. We met three dogs and some very nice people on the way.

From Mill Creek we detoured onto the beach and walked between the high tide line and the foreshore, picking up rubbish as we went.  At first we thought that the beach was clean but once we started looking we found A LOT OF RUBBISH!

We collected as much as we could and loaded this onto Scott's ute. He and Donna kindly took responsibility for ensuring that the rubbish went to a more appropriate place than the ecosystem that holds endangered banded dotterels and little blue penguins (korora).

Great effort Ruma Waru, and a big shout out to Mrs Wylde, Mrs McKinley, Donna and Scott.

We found drink bottle, lolly bags, coffee cups and lots and lots of shredded plastic bags.

There were paint cartons, fire grates, more bottles and nylon string.

There were drink cans, plastic pegs, and bags of household rubbish! YUK!
There were old undies, various unmentionable items, and even more plastic!

There was an old car tyre, a basketball (which we pumped up and are reusing) and lots of pieces of metal. Rory found a car rear wing mirror!
